A Recent Happening

The OISC hosted a joint meeting of the Optial Society of Southern California and the IEEE Laser Electro-Optics Society (LEOS) Los Angeles Chapter at USC on Jan. 21st.  Prof. Alan  Willner talked to us about the State of the Optical Fiber Telecommunications Industry.  It was nice getting folks from different but related societies together.  You can read about it in the OSSC Jan. 2004 Images Newsletter.

Coming Events
The OISC will be exhibiting at the San Diego County Educational High Tech Fair on Wed. Feb. 18th.  The "Tech Fair" is unique in that it's charter is to enlighten 7th-12th grade students to the world of science and the possibilities of a scientific career.

Donn Silberman, OISC Founding Director, will be the host and a guest speaker at the Optical Society of San Diego's meeting Thur. Feb. 19th a the Fleet Science Center.

The OISC will join with the OSSC, OSSD, IVC LET, & IEEE LEOS to share our missions with the attendees at the Optical Fiber Communications (OFC) Conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center Feb. 24 - 26.  We will have a table top exhibit in the lobby, so be sure to stop by and pick up the latest information about our local meeting and events.

The Optical Society of San Diego and Optica Society of Southern California will have a joint meeting at the Beckman Laser Institute on Wed. Mar. 10th.

Donn Silberman, OISC Founding Director, will be presenting, "The Optics Suitcase comes to Southern California" at the San Diego's Science Educators' Association Annual Conference on Sat. March 13 at 8 am.

The Optical Society of Southern California and the OISC are organizing a special OPTRICKS Day event at the Discovery Science Center on Sat. April 24th from 10 am to 5 pm.  This will be open to the public and will have many presentations, workshops, exhibits and demonstrations.  Please contact Donn Silberman to sign up to volunteer or to participate in one of many ways.  Your support is always welcome.

Friends of the OISC are joining together to explore the possibility of forming an Optics / Photonics Cluster in Southern California.  If you already know about Clusters and would like to participate in this exploration, please contact Donn Silberman.  If you would like to learn more about Clusters, Click Here!
There is much organizing to do to form a Cluster and local companies must actively participate to make it happen; but it is all about economic development for the local optics community and the Cluster's individual company members.  Bob Breault, from Arizona, the Optics Cluster Guru, has volunteered to be our guest speaker (no fee for his services).  We just need to organize ourselves and invite him (we will need to pay his travel and hotel.)  I am thinking about trying to get this event to happen in June, but no firm dates are yet contemplated.  Your input will make (or not) this happen!!  Talk to me!!

Read about our  "The Speed of Light Exhibit" project and click here for more detailed information.  The OISC is seeking sponsors for this exhibit.

We want to thank our Supporters and Collaborators, so we have put their logos and web links on our home page, with a special link to our  Supporter & Collaborators web page that briefly describes our joint works.

Please Welcome our newest Corporate Members
